What’s hot but can also keep its cool? Radiators, of course. Every home’s lifesaver during the winter months, we have a lot to thank radiators for – and what better way to show our gratitude to these ingenious inventions than by upcycling these beloved heating appliances.
When they’re no longer needed, the majority of radiators are discarded to the tip – abandoned without a thought about its potential upcycling abilities. But thanks to the increasing trend of repurposing popular household items into innovative designs, it seems that there’s still hope for the trusted radiators. Want to try putting the ‘rad’ back into your radiator? We’ll show you how with these three fun and easy upcycle ideas:
-
Radiator recliner. Who here hasn’t wanted to own their very own radiator recliner? Well now you can, following these simple steps. Step one: acquire an unwanted radiator. Step two: jump up and down on said radiator (placed on two blocks at each end) vigorously until the radiator takes on an interesting bent appearance. Step three: weld the feet and spray the radiator with enamel paint. Step four: step back and marvel at your upcycled wonder.
-
Radiator table. You know what every home needs? A radiator table – seriously, this impromptu innovation is now a common sight in several homes. Its sturdy design makes it a great choice for an upcycled table, and after reaching the grand old age where they’re no longer needed (not to mention being difficult to recycle), give your radiator a new lease of life in the form of a table. Paint the radiator the colour of your choice, lay the radiator on its side then place a layer of glass on top and fix wheels to the bottom of the radiator. Easy to make and easy on the eye, we’re sure you agree that this style is pretty ‘hot’ right now.
-
Radiator bookcase. OK now radiators are just showing off – is there anything this apparatus can’t do?! Turns out it can even function as an alternative library, right in the heart of your bedroom/living room/bathroom. Paint the radiator your favourite shade, and enjoy a bespoke bookcase like no other.
