Whether it's providing a roof for your car or a space to store your possessions in the interim, in terms of style, the garage is often overlooked. With many of us treating it as a storage solution, there seems little point decorating a space that hardly gets much use – however, it’s not just about style, it’s also about safety.
With numerous weighted items scraping the ground and creating dents – not to mention ruining the surface as well as various spillages acting as potential hazards – it’s imperative that you tend to your garage floor, with regular upkeep helping improve the longevity of your garage floor. Several painting products now take into account the importance of maintaining garage floors, providing benefits such as spill proof properties as well as dust prevention capabilities – so what’s stopping you from enjoying the benefits of a painted and protected garage floor?
Here we’ll show you how to get a primed and painted garage floor like a professional:
-
Clean your concrete floor. Prior to painting, sweep and clean the floor accordingly. Remove any stains (whilst wearing protective gear at all times), and once the floor is scrubbed, rinse thoroughly – starting at the back of the garage and working your way to the front. Make sure you remove any laitance.
-
Repair any surface imperfections. Then once your floor is dry, repair any cracks using the appropriate compounds – making sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
-
Paint. Your patience has finally paid off, and you can now start painting your garage floor! Whilst you may have the right paint for the job, ensure you have the right brushes – it’s recommended you use nylon brushes and all-purpose, solvent and water-resistant roller covers. With your first coat, keep it thin – and apply two coats allowing it to dry overnight. And there you have it, a perfectly painted floor – which if done correctly, won’t need a touch up until next year!
